Welcome to the 2008 Workshop on Dependable and Secure Services Computing (DSSC-2008). This year, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the 2008 IEEE Asia-Pacific Services Computing Conference (APSCC-2008), from December 9 - 12 in Yilan, Taiwan.
Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) is an emerging paradigm that puts Technology, Business, and People altogether. Since SOC is reshaping the modern business model and services industry, security and dependability are becoming crucial issues. The prime goal of DSSC-2008 lies in associating Services Computing with higher level of dependability and security. More specifically, we aim to provide a platform for researchers in the dependability and security communities to interact with researchers in the SOC community, so that efficacious cross pollination of ideas could occur between these areas.
This is the first DSSC workshop, hopefully the first of many to come. DSSC intend to be an international workshop. The composition of the Program Committee of DSSC-2008 would reflect this international stance: 4 members come from Europe, 5 from America, and 15 form Asia. Furthermore, the submitted manuscripts come from 9 countries; and the authors come from both industry and academia.
We would like to thank the Steering Chairs, Prof. Hsiao-Hwa Chen and Prof. Jong Hyuk Park, for their precious and helpful suggestions and guidance. We deeply appreciate all the Program Committee members for their excellent work in reviewing the submissions and guaranteeing the quality of the workshop under a very tight schedule. And, of course, we thank our Organizing Committee for getting all the pieces together to make DSSC-2008 a successful event. Last but not least, we thank you, our authors and attendees, without whom the workshop would not have been possible.
